ODESSA CALERA (HOGUE) LOPP PARKS OBITUARY






Sikeston - Funeral service for Odessa Calera Lopp Parks of Sikeston will be held today at Tanner Street Church of God. Burial will be in the Garden of Memories Cemetery.

Mrs. Parks, 86 years old, died Sunday at the Clearview Nursing Center.

She was born Feb. 21, 1910, in Anderson, Ala., the daughter of William James and Martha E. Willis Hogue. She and Joseph Albert Lopp were married Dec. 16, 1928. He died July 25, 1968. She married Hester L. Parks Nov. 24, 1973. He died Jan. 14, 1987.

She worked 23 years as a restaurant and school cook, including 12 years with Sikeston Public Schools. She was a member of Tanner Street Church.

Survivors include four sons, Lowell, Ted, Jack and Dan Lopp; three daughters, Bonnie Noles, Brenda Crawford and Cherry Sanders; five brothers, the Rev. Grady Hogue, the Rev. Everett Hogue, Dalton Hogue, Riggle Hogue and Finis Hogue; four sisters, Viola Stanford, Pearl Stafford, Verla Horton and Bonnie Bailey; 18 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.


She was preceded in death by four sisters.

OBITUARY

Verla Virginia Horton

NOVEMBER 17, 1921 – JULY 3, 2022



















Verla Virginia Horton, age 100, passed away on Monday July 3, 2022 at Delta South Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center in Sikeston, MO.

She was born November 17, 1921 in Lawrenceburg, TN. to the late William James and Martha Elizabeth Hogue.

On October 11, 1940 in Portageville, MO. she married Alton Leonard Horton who preceded her in death on September 24, 2004 at the age of 90.

Verla wore many different hats during those 100 years. She was a farmer’s housewife, and worked in the Charleston School system, but her largest and most enduring contributions of life were the music programs in her church.

Most of her life, she lived in Mississippi County. She was a member of the First Church of God in East Prairie, MO., and in her later years a member of Tanner Street Church of God in Sikeston, MO.

She is survived by one son, Barry (Glenda) Horton of Scott City, MO., and one daughter Tonya Horton (Ralph) Shupe of Oklahoma City, OK. and four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Verla was the longest living and the last of the fourteen Hogue siblings.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her nine brothers and five sisters: Noble, Wesley (James), Viola, Rufus (Herman), Grady, Calera, Everett, Burley, Pearl, Dalton (Warner), Riggle, Finis, and Bonnie.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, July 6, 2022 from 12:00 p.m. until time of the funeral service at 2:00 p.m. at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel, with Pastors Ralph and Tonya Shupe along with Pastor Brent Horton will officiate.

Pallbearers will be: Chris Kempkin, River Horton, David Lingle, Daren Lingle, Bob Hanor, and Ronnie Hall.

Interment will be at the Dogwood Cemetery in Dogwood, MO.
