Oliver Carter Hogue, 82, of Temple, Texas, passed away January 2, 2021. He was born July 8, 1938, in West Frankfurt, Illinois, to the Reverend Thomas Everett and Opal (Oliver) Hogue.
Oliver grew up in the Church of God of Anderson, Indiana, and began preaching and singing in his parents’ church at the age of 15. He attended seminary at Anderson College in Anderson, Indiana. He obtained his Bachelor of Arts and Master of Ministry, with continuing education in Psychology, Counseling, and Christian History. Oliver became an ordained minister in 1965, pastoring in St. Paris, Ohio and Scott Depot, West Virginia in the early years. During his years of ministry, in Scott Depot West Virginia, he founded Teays Valley Child Development Center in 1974 and Teays Valley Christian School in 1979. He spent his latter years as pastor of Texas Christ Fellowship in Central Texas.
Oliver was known as Pastor Hogue and was well known for his relationship with the Jewish Community, leading over thirty-three trips to Israel and other countries. In July of 1982, Oliver was invited to the United States Senate by then Senator Robert Byrd to be the Chaplain of the Day, and he offered the opening prayer.
He was preceded in death by his parents Everett and Opal Hogue; brother, the Reverend Ronald Hogue; daughter Anne, and granddaughter Mandy Nicole. He is survived by his beloved wife Kathy; brother, the Reverend Terry Hogue and wife Kathy; brother Dr. Gavin Hogue; sister-in-law Peggy Hogue; son Bryan; daughter Naomi and husband Richard; stepson Brandon and wife, Tasha; grandchildren Bryan Carter, Sharon Catherine, Tyler Neal, Caleb Brandon, Lilian Marie, and five great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his beloved adopted grandchildren, Lydia, Lindsey, Mark, and Luke.
His goal in life was to seek the will of God and do it wholeheartedly. He loved the Lord with all his heart, and he loved his neighbor as himself. He became known and loved by his neighbors wherever he lived, and was even willing to purchase rocks from the neighborhood children so they could buy ice cream. He was a passionate model railroad hobbyist, having acquired his first toy train as a young child. His hobby took him all over the country attending train shows and generating close friendships.
A memorial service will be held on January 24, 2021, 10:00 a.m., at Central Texas Home Builders Association, 445 East Central Texas Expressway, Harker Heights, Texas, 76548. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Pastor Hogue’s beloved missions ministry in Sierra Leone, Africa, the Sierra Leone Vocational Institute (SLVI) for vulnerable girls, founded and managed Rev.
