ISOM BEECHER NOBLE Sr.

Descendants of Isom Beecher Noble

Generation No. 1

ISOM BEECHER NOBLE  (JOHN M.) was born October 21, 1845 in Kentucky, and died July 14, 1927 in Trace Fork, Wayne County, WV.  He married ELIZABETH BOWEN, daughter of HUGHA BOWEN and SUSANNA TROUT.  He married in 1867.  She was born November 18, 1849 in Virginia, and died October 10, 1917 in Wayne County, West Virginia.

Notes for ISOM NOBLE:

Isom Noble from Wayne County WV, was a Civil War vet. He is listed in the roster for Diamonds 10th Kentucky Cavalry, CSA enlisting 3/20/63. F ound him in the Breathitt County Kentucky Census of 1860, number 366/3 66 father John born Floyd Co Kentucky, mother Sary from NC. My father is Luther Noble son of Robert Lee Noble and Prudence (Ball) Noble. I a m sure that Isom and his wife are buried in the family cemetery on Trace Fork in Wayne Co. WV.  Gardner Fletcher's father Isom enlisted as a Private in May's Battalio of the Kentucky Mounted Rifles (which became Company E, 10th Regiment (Diamond) Kentucky's Calvary) on March 20, 1863 in Wolfe Co, kentucky.
He was captured and became prisoner of War on April 16, 1864 in Wolfe Co, Kentucky.  He was transferred to a military prison in Louisville Kentucky on may 7, 1864.  From Louisville, he was transferred to Camp Morton in Indy on May 7 1864.  He was paroled at Camp Morton and
forwarded to Point Lookout, MD via the B & O Railroad for a prisoner exchange on March 15 1865.

Story about Isom from David Noble:

I was told by my father (Luther Noble) that Isom joined the Southern side because some Northern recruiters were trying to get him to join and in so doing were bad mouthing the Southern boys.  This made Isom mad and he joined up with the CSA, he was about 16 at the time.
The following information was provided by Mike Burcham a cousin who has a copy of Isom's service record.
Isom enlisted as a Private in May's Battalion of the Kentucky Mounted Rifles (which later became Company E, 10th Regiment [Diamond's] Kentucky Calvary) on March 20, 1863 in Wolfe County, KY. He was enlisted by D. F. Swango, a prominent person in the region during the war.
Isom was captured and became a Prisoner of War on April 16, 1864 in Wolfe County. A single note in the record under remarks states "Bushwacker".  He was transferred to a military prison in Louisville, KY on May 7, 1864.  From Louisville, he was transferred to Camp Morton in Indianapolis, IN in May 12, 1864.  He was paroled at Camp Morton and forwarded to Point Lookout, MD via the B&O Railroad for a prisoner exchange.  It appears that he was freed sometime on or after March 15, 1865.

Notes for ELIZABETH BOWEN:

Also with talking with my folks they remember that the stories being t old that the rich
Trogdon's stayed in Scotland-Enlgand and the others left for the new w orld and
settled in WV. My Dad and your Great-Uncle was Leo. Pharoah and Cora N oble Trogdon were parents
of fourteen children, ten of whom lived to adulthood. There is only on e living
sibling left, Uncle George. who lives in California. Without checking the
records, I think he's around 85 years old or thereabouts. My Dad woul d have been
87 this year and Uncle George was next in the birth order. Uncle Muss was in his
early 90's when he died last year. He was near Uncle Sidney in the bir th order.
There are four spouses still living - your grandmother, my Mother, Aun t Ruth
(Muss), and Aunt Marie(Isom). My Mother is Geneva Grizzle Trogdon and she still
lives in Rittman. We celebrated her 80th birthday on September 4. Aun t Ruth is
at Smithville -Western Nursing home just outside of Smithville, and Au nt Marie
still lives in Rittman. We were doing a bit of traveling in 1982 and s topped to
see your grandparents in Homassassa, Fla., but I don't think Aunt Ona lives
there now. If you have her address, I'd love to have it.
Your grandparents were the first ones in the family to move to Rittma n from
Wayne, WVA. One by one or two by two, the rest of the family moved nor th for
jobs. Most of them lived with your grandparents ( I know my Dad did) u ntil they
could earn enough money to find a place of their own and send for thei r
families. Shortly after Sandy had sent this letter our Great Aunt Rut h died

Sidney Trogdon was my Grandfather and died 16yrs. this December.
